Yesterday was Ed Balls Day. Hope you celebrated this hallowed event.

It’s hard to believe that another month has come and gone. I cannot believe that this year is nearly half over already. It’s been busy the entire time between working and traveling here and there.

I finally got into the storage unit again today. I stopped over there yesterday but it was starting to rain so I could not take stuff out of there. Today the wet weather held off pretty good so I took advantage of it. I rearranged some things after I took out some trailer items and made a little more space in the unit.

I did a little more work in the trailer both yesterday and today. Once that first thing clicked on organizing it last week it all really fell into place. It’s now easier to find things, they are in more logical places than how I did have it organized, and I got all the stuff put away and removed a few things too.

When I was out doing that today my neighbors to the west came home. They are one of the ones that own a restaurant. She got home first and came over to say “hi” and brought me a homemade pecan cinnamon roll from their restaurant. She suggested slathering it in butter after warming in the microwave. I followed her strictest orders and did just that – slathered in butter. Diet blown all to hell in one bite. I don’t usually eat cinnamon rolls, and I have not been eating many sweets.

I MUST, however, say that it was a pretty tasty pecan cinnamon roll.

Well cool! I just found out that I am only a few blocks from the bus stop! That means less driving and more using public transit to go places. Saves gas, money and helps the planet. Won’t have to look for parking wither. The practice will come in handy for the next vacation that I fly. With the weather getting better I just might even strap on a backpack and ride my bike to the store.

I’ll try hitting more farm markets this year since they have foods that are healthier and probably safer even if they are a bit more pricey. The other plus is the local produce that is available and it is a good feeling to support those people. I’m getting better at more produce in my diet but still need more. The sugar battle continues but it’s getting better all the time.

The neighbors are talking about having a block party and doing some grilling often over the summer. With the owners of different two restaurants as neighbors I think this will be a real good thing to attend.

Glad it is finally the weekend. Been a pretty busy week. It’s supposed to rain so that is still keeping me from getting into my storage unit on the weekends so far when I have had the time. I need get a few more things out of it to put into the trailer and I also want to grab a few more things for the house and see what I can part with – perhaps even make a few bucks.

It’s going to be a low-energy weekend – been on the go a lot and need to take a little more time to relax at home. I’ll get in the trailer and see what is left to do that I can do for now and take care of it. I need to flush the water but may wait until my first trip to do it at a park or campground. My landlady may not appreciate me driving up the water bill to flush the water tank and lines anyhoo.

My futon is going to have to go I think. It just takes up so much room in the cabin, and if I have guests they can stay in the trailer. I can get my recliner out of the storage unit and that will take care of some space in it and still have something to sit on. It’s a pretty decent-sleeping futon but It’s just not gonna work.

Until next time…

A while back I picked up a jar of something called PB2. It is dried peanut butter.

Now before you start going “ewwwww” or laughing or perhaps even thinking I am a bit off (well, maybe two out of three…), it is really pretty good and made a pretty good PB&J. It is not the Simply Jif that I like or the Adam’s All-Natural which is okay. The PB2 is all natural and has 85% less fat calories than regular peanut butter. That means that 2 Tbsp has only 45 calories and 13 from fat. A good trade-off that is still pretty delicious.

It has been such great weather this week that when I got home yesterday I got in the trailer and actually ended up spending several hours in it making some more changes to my storage. I got to thinking about rearranging some things again as I sat there, and I think I finally got it nailed down well. I was not happy with it the last time I tried to rearrange it so it had to change.

I got some news from Jim a few days ago that we are probably not going to be ale to go to Europe together this year. Something came up for them and they won’t be able to go. It’s all good, though. You gotta take care of things that are priority in life and there’s still definitely going to be a trip together. It just won’t be this year.

I guess I will need to decide what I will do about vacation this year at some point…whether I will go ahead and go over there myself or do something different. It would be a great opportunity to do the US 2 road trip to Maine I want to do. That’s a long drive but still on my list to do.

That actually might be a good idea the more I start to think about it. I will be done working this year earlier and I could finally make it to New England just in time for the colors changing and miss the weather. I had thought about doing that a couple of years ago but didn’t ended up working and saving some money. Now I will have the time off and can go. It would be cheaper than Europe possibly but fuel in the truck pulling the trailer will be a big expense.

But, dammit…I still want to go to OLD England! Oh well. It has been around for centuries and it’ll be there a few more years I imagine. We’ll get there maybe next year together.

The work week draws to a close and I have another adventure coming up that I decided on a few days ago to go on. Not gonna say what it is yet but I am certain that I will post about it.

Off to bed for now. See you next post.

What a beautiful day today! The weather was even better than yesterday and the week is supposed to get better and then the rain moves in on the weekend (of course).

Seemed like a good excuse to fire up the hibachi again since it was so nice out so I grilled up some burgers (yeah, like I need an excuse to fire up a grill!). I now have some delicious leftovers to freeze for later and another one for tomorrow night’s supper. I put one on a Udi’s Gluten-free bun with bacon mustard and a slice of onion and it was pretty good. Yesterday I grilled some turkey smoked sausages and I have to say they were not very good – just not the same as regular smoked sausages or bratwursts. I’ll freeze and dice them up into a cast iron skillet to make fried potatoes and onions later on.

Yesterday I finally bought one of those chimney charcoal starters. I have used starter fluid in charcoal grills before but I have never really been a fan of it. It’s bad for the environment, probably not good for cooking over and it is easier to use a chimney starter and so much faster. The hibachi is a skill I definitely need to work on – it cooks so fast and there is definitely a learning curve to it. Admittedly my grilling skills are a bit rusty, but I have never really used a hibachi before. I’ll keep working on it.

Speaking of yesterday, I cracked open that 19 Crimes Bold Red wine I wrote about in that post. That is a serious wine – it is VERY bold and full of flavor. It has a big feel on the palate and is probably the the “biggest” flavor wine I have ever had. I think I will go back and get a few more bottles of that and I am anxious to try the other types they have.

It’s looking like that as of now I’ll probably be done working October 1st. I have a few personal things I need to take care of, and traveling is definitely on the list after that. I don’t know where the adventures will be but I should have time to be able to do a long road trip and get someplace out of the country again.

I have been getting some really good deals in my email for airfares to points far and farther. I am debating one thing already – flying non-stop or doing a layover in Iceland the next time if I go to Europe. I’d like to do a non-stop and just get there but that is a really long time on a plane. We’ll see how it shakes out I guess. I have been watching Rick Steves again so it’s getting me excited to go back. I don’t know where it will be yet but I have time to figure it out. I won’t be going in the summer so the fares will be better.

That’s about all for now.

For the first time in a long time I am cooking on a grill. The weather is perfect to be outside – sunshine and 67 degrees – so I am taking full advantage of it.

I am using a hibachi which I was given a few years back. I had it in the trailer to use for trips, but I thought I’d bring it into my new back yard and use it at home. I have been thinking about getting a grill and was torn between charcoal or gas. I have used a propane grill before, and it is the ease of use that rocks with those. The purist side of me prefers charcoal for the taste, however, and the hibachi is pretty easy and inexpensive to use since it takes very little charcoal (and I already had it!).

Before I started grilling I trimmed the grass with a trimmer (yay small yard!) and added a new plant to the space…a 5′ palm tree that was left at work and given to me to start my own little tropical paradise. It looks pretty good next to the Japanese maple.

My back yard

The maple actually opened up more in the last hour so it is going to be a spectacular  display. My strawberry basket is bringing on fruit, my tomato plant is doing good and the flowers I put in my brightly-colored pots are looking good. I am thinking I may still need to get a few more plants for my yard. I had some in my cart last week but put them back. I decided against it until I could arrange things and see what space is open to put plants in with the needed sun exposure.

My canoe is sitting across a corner on top of my fence so it makes the canoe a great sunshade to sit under and will help to shield my bicycle from the weather. It is also out of the way that way. I might get a canopy for the back yard to put up to keep some sun off of the house and make it cooler. There is pretty good western exposure to the sun and I think it’s gonna get warm inside the house and that won’t work for me. I cannot sleep when it is hot.

I have some bee and butterfly flower seeds to plant that will help give them some food. I need to figure out where to put them so they do not get too close to my yard. I want to spend time out there this summer but don’t want to take the chance on anyone getting stung. I might sprinkle them in front of my house and that should lure them away from my outdoor activities. I saw bumblebees in my yard this morning and maybe this will entice them to stay away from there. It’s good for the planet to help the bees. It’s good for ALL of us to help the bees.

My daughters were recently raving about a wine called “19 Crimes”. Their comments had me curious about it so I wanted to get some. The store I go to has been out of it for a month, but while I was there today I checked and they got in a shipment of the “Bold Red” so I snagged a bottle. I would really like to open it but it is only 2:45 in the afternoon and if I started now and REALLY like it I’d probably be shit-faced by 5 PM. Maybe I’ll wait and have a glass or two with my supper. Probably a better idea, and I’ll have the rest to drink with supper tomorrow. I do like good wine so I am anxious to give it a taste.

Work is going fine and I am anxious to get into the season to see how it is going to be. I am sure it will be busy but maybe not quite like the previous place I was at. I will be doing a few different things than where I last worked so it will be interesting when things ramp up.

Speaking o my trailer, this nice weather is giving my “travelin’ Jones” a workout. I am ready to get the Scotty out on the road now that things I needed to get done are getting finished up and my time will be mine once again. I’ve been a few places the last couple of weekends but that was to do errands. I should be able to get away within the next month for a road trip and I am also looking at another flight to KS to visit. Flight prices have been a bit steep between Seattle and KC but I really need to get a visit in soon. Maybe I can get a flight booked in the next few days.
